The BeerBoard Story

Enabling Bars & Breweries With an All-in-One Technology Solution

BeerBoard is a technology company that enables the food and beverage industry to make data-driven decisions about its bar business, streamlining operations and increasing revenue. BeerBoard manages over $1 billion in retail draft beer sales and 45,000 products through its industry-leading solution.

The company’s patented digital platform SmartBar, generates real-time insights and trend-driven analytics. It is designed for retailers, brewers, and distributors to capture, analyze, and report real-time data related to bar performance, brand insights, and inventory.

The Challenge

Driving Adoption of SmartBar & Its New SmartMenu Product

BeerBoard launched the SmartMenus initiative to help keep environments safe by eliminating the need for customers and staff to handle printed menus. The project provides bars and restaurants with contactless menus accessible via mobile, web, or QR codes.

The initiative was driven by the company’s goal to cultivate relationships with clients through analyzing data, and assessing feedback and engagements. Another benefit included helping clients meet COVID-19 requirements.

BeerBoard found Whatfix during its search for a digital adoption and guidance solution. It’s primary needs from a DAP like Whatfix was:

  • Integration with Beerboard’s SmartBar platform.
  • In-app SmartBar guidance to providing employee training in the flow of work.
  • Access to a comprehensive knowledge base and an easy-to-use interface for end-user training.
  • Support frequent employee onboarding and training due to high turnover in the hospitality industry.
  • Foster client training capabilities by empowering them to independently and effectively train their workforce.
  • Collect customer and end-user feedback on SmartBar’s features, UX, onboarding experience, training, and overall platform.
The Solution

BeerBoard Partners With Whatfix’s Digital Adoption Platform

Whatfix launched within SmartBar in August 2017. Whatfix provided a repository of information within SmartBar, which allowed their clients immediate access to relevant, industry-related knowledge. BeerBoard’s staff noticed a productivity improvement and increased completion of specific company tasks.

Within the first few months of integrating Whatfix within BeerBoard, the company was able to:

  • Improve customer and end-user training: Integrating Whatfix with the SmartBar platform significantly improved the quality of client-user training and provided a comprehensive knowledge base that served as a resource of information for clients and their employees. This also led to a higher level of platform adoption while also decreasing time-to-proficiency and customer training costs.
  • Provide a real-time, self-help support interface: Provided customers and end-users with access to a knowledge base that overlayed on the SmartBar UI, deflecting the number of support calls and emails coming into the BeerBoard customer support team.
  • Foster client independence: Improved the quality of customer training and operational knowledge helped create a higher level of client independence. Whatfix’s adoption led to a reduction in overall support inquiries.
  • Centralized source of information: Access to the SmartBar platform with frequent data updates helped improve customer and end-user knowledge of the SmartBar platform, how to use it to work more efficiency, and stay updated on new features and process changes.
  • Improve engagement with the SmartBar platform: Integrating Whatfix with SmartBar improved user engagement with an easy-to-use interface and guided training that empowered end-users with valuable information, which helped customers achieve ROI from their SmartBar investments and enabled end-users to become more productive powered by SmartBar’s technology.

“BeerBoard was able to streamline the training and onboarding process for our SmartBar platform with a step-by-step workflow for our users. By shortening the learning curve for our users, Whatfix has helped our clients achieve the benefits of our SmartBar platform much quicker,” said Sundar Ravindran, CTO at BeerBoard.

While SmartBar knew it needed a solution for its customer and end-user training, support, and engagement, it didn’t realize a DAP was its perfect solution until later in the buying process. It eventually selected Whatfix’s DAP for the following reasons:

  • Easy integration: The integration of Whatfix’s DAP with Beerboard’s SmartBar platform was simple and fast, and didn’t require technical support.
  • Continuous customer and end-user training: Connecting the SmartBar empowered BeerBoard to train new customers and end-users on operating the SmartBar patform in hospitality environments, including retailers, brewers, and distributors, as well as providing them with guided instructions on core workflows and platform capabilities with Flows and Task Lists. Whatfix DAP also would enable SmartBar to push new features and product update announcements with Smart Tips, Beacons, and Pop-Ups.
  • User-friendly interface: The unified Whatfix platform features an easy-to-use interface designed to create in-app guided experiences for onboarding and training end-users on how to use SmartBar – all with a no-code content editor. It serves as a reference source for all customers and end-users to find answers to their questions through the dashboard.
  • Support ongoing and new employee training: BeerBoard recognized that the high turnover rate of employees in the hospitality industry created a constant training environment. Thus, they needed a comprehensive, integrated solution that would address all of their training needs and provide employees access to current data. Whatfix provided an impactful advantage that would allow BeerBoard to deliver training to meet the needs of its broad client base.
